Final Writing Project

FINAL WRITING PROJECT---The Westing Game due March 11, 2011

A. You will need to assemble a folder containing the seven worksheets:
1. Chapters 1-4 due Feb 8
2. Ch. 5-8 due Feb 10
3. Ch 9-12 due Feb 11
4. Ch 13-16 due Feb 14
5. Ch 17-20 due Feb 15
6. Ch 21-24 due Feb 18
7. Ch 25-30 due Feb 28

B. A detailed description and illustration of your assigned character.

C. A diary or journal for your assigned character.

In this, you will write from the point of view of your character. You should not just talk about what your character has done each day, but their fears, suspiciouns, feelings and relationships with the other characters.

Try to get inside your character's head!

D. The Westing connection.

Describe the relationship between your character and Sam Westing. Did your character's feelings toward Sam Westing change over the course of the novel? How? Why? When? Use quotations from the text to support your arguments.

E. The Pairs of Heirs

Describe the relationship between your character and your partner. Did the relationship change over the course of the novel? Why? How? When? What made you a good pair? What strengths and weaknesses did both you and your partner bring to the partnership? How well did you do in winning the Westing game?

F. Sam Westing: Why?

Describe what Sam Westing's reasons might have been for setting up such an elaborate game. What hobbies and interests did he have that he managed to incorporate into the game? What do you think about the ethics of such a game? It makes for a fun read, but what would you think about this game if it really happened?

Our novel has a happy ending for each and every character. In real life, things could have gotten confused. Describe some ways in which things might have gone wrong in this game.
